The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) the launch of a dating service to help the 50 and older crowd find companionship. The site is powered by HowAboutWe, an Internet dating site that promotes itself as an “offline” dating service because it focuses on real dates rather than online chatting.
With the new AARP service, members create profiles of themselves, with photos, and then post suggestions for date activities following a “How about we …” prompt. Date suggestions may be conventional meet-ups at local restaurants, or something unique, such as “How about we … see who’s better at paintball.”
Users may try out the site with a free subscription that allows them to build a profile and browse date suggestions by other members. A paid subscription gives users full messaging capabilities. A six-month subscription costs about the price of a movie ticket per month, according to the AARP website. AARP members receive a 50 percent discount.
AARP is a nonprofit organization with more than 37 million members.
